Sometimes, especially when life is busy (which, let’s face it, often happens in the fall), we may find ourselves going through the motions. While working hard to achieve our goals and supporting those we love around us is important, it’s also important to step back and enjoy life. In the famous words of Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” This doesn’t mean you should blow off all of your responsibilities, but it is okay to take a few moments to yourself to enjoy the beauty this season has to offer.
Here are some fabulous fall ideas that will warm your heart and your soul.
7 Tips for Making this Fall feel Fabulous
1. Enjoy the Colours
I live in the heart of beautiful cottage country, which means there are gorgeous sights everywhere we turn all year long, but especially in the fall. Whether you’re driving, walking, or just sitting outdoors relaxing, try to take some time to enjoy the fall colours. It is a wonderful opportunity to practise mindfulness.
2. Enjoy a Warm Beverage
There’s something extra cozy about a warm beverage on a crisp day. When you’re out window shopping, stop by your favourite café for a pumpkin spice latte or another special treat. Alternatively, making your favourite warm drink at home, whether it’s hot chocolate or herbal tea, can be heartwarming and enjoyable.
3. Embrace the Fall Wardrobe
This is a wonderful time of year to slip on a nice, cozy sweater or jacket. As you organize your closets for fall, it is also a great opportunity to purge some of the summer clothes you haven’t worn in a while.
4. Visit a Farm
Whether you’re going apple picking or pumpkin picking, visiting a farm in the fall can be a very fun and exciting activity. There are activities for the whole family, and it’s a great way to spend an afternoon outdoors.
5. Decorate for the Season
There’s a lot to be said about how your environment can impact how you feel. Decorating for the season can bring a lot of people joy, excitement, and anticipation. Perhaps it’s a good time to get out those fall placemats, decorative pumpkins, or light a cinnamon candle.
6. Go to the Fall Fair
When my mother was a young girl, her parents always took her to the fall fair. This was a tradition she continued when I was young, and then I passed it down to my daughters when they were young. There’s something so magical and fun about a fall fair. Whether you’re there for the games, the rides, or the attractions, there’s often something for everyone.
7. Journal
Journaling can be a wonderful way to set intentions for the season ahead and to release some of the unwanted thoughts from the previous one.
